The $100 film festival is Calgary’s International festival of low budget short films. The festival is unique, presenting a rowdy and raw mix of films made by independent filmmakers and artists from around the world. That is to say we are one of the few festivals still projecting all the selections on film. In an increasingly digital age we feel it’s important to promote film as an artistic medium. Warm, soft, beautiful film. The $100 film festival continues to be one of the few venues for first-time local and international filmmakers to exhibit their work and for you to see it. From March 4th to the 6th, the festival brings together filmlovers in a binge of unruly and unpasteurized independent shortfilm in all its glory. WE ARE GRoWING From only one screening of seven shortfilms in 1992, the festival has steadily grown in size for the past 18 years. In 2009, the festival screened more than 45 shortfilms including local, Albertan, Canadian and International filmmakers in three screenings over three days. We continue to sell out at the box office, so buy your tickets early. For the 6th year we will bring together the creative communities of local filmmakers and musicians in a collaborative challenge. Musicfilm Explosion dares filmmakers to createfilms in response to original music created first by the musicians for the festival event. (Its usually done the other way around but we thought it would be fun to confuse the filmmakers and see what happens!) The resulting short films will be screened accompanied by live musical performances in the $100 film festival.
